چکیده

Medium from mouse mammary tumor cell cultures con tained a growth-stimulating factor. The assay for growthstimulating factor was performed on density-inhibited cul tures of mouse embryo cells. Addition of nondialyzed or dialyzed mouse mammary tumor cell culture medium caused an increase in DNA synthesis and mitosis in densityinhibited cells. Dialyzed medium was more active than non dialyzed medium in stimulating growth. Normal mouse mammary cell culture medium also showed similar growthstimulatory activity, but to a lesser extent than that showed by tumor cell culture medium. The growth-stimulating factor was precipitated from the culture medium with 60% saturated ammonium sulfate.

Identification of somatomedin-like polypeptides produced by mammary tumors of BALB/c mice.

A transplantable mammary tumor derived from an outgrowth of nodule-like alveolar lesions induced by 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene in cultures of whole mammary gland was shown to produce a family of somatomedin-like polypeptides when cultured in vitro. Minced mammary tumor tissue as well as monolayer cultures of tumor cells produced similar polypeptides when incubated in serum- and hormone-free...

Alcohol promotes mammary tumor growth through activation of VEGF-dependent tumor angiogenesis

Alcohol consumption has been recognized as a risk factor for breast cancer. Experimental studies demonstrate that alcohol exposure promotes the progression of existing mammary tumors. However, the mechanisms underlying this effect remain unclear. In the present study, the role of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in alcohol promotion of breast cancer development was investigated using a...

Growth of Human Mammary Tumor Xenografts in Mice Oligonucleotides and Small Interfering RNAs Suppresses Colony-Stimulating Factor-1 Blockade by Antisense

Colony-stimulating factor (CSF)-1 is the primary regulator of tissue macrophage production. CSF-1 expression is correlated with poor prognosis in breast cancer and is believed to enhance mammary tumor progression and metastasis through the recruitment and regulation of tumorassociated macrophages. Macrophages produce matrix metalloproteases (MMPs) and vascular endothelial growth factor, which a...

STUDIES ON THE TISSUE SPECIFICITY OF COLONY STIMULATING FACTOR

In this study granulocyte-macrophage colony stimulating factor (CSF) was prepared from rabbit and guinea pig lung tissues. The biological activity of these CSFs was measured on semisolid agar culture and compared with those of mouse and rat. Weight of animals, incubation time and cross-reactivity of CSFs with different bone marrow sources were also investigated. The results showed that both...
